| Introduction | I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis when I was 13, spent two months in the hospital before I had step 1 of 2-step j-pouch surgery. 3 months after step 1 I had my take-down and lived happily for the next 12 years. Spring of 2005 I developed a pouch-vaginal fistula and was diagnosed with crohns of the pouch. Tried variety of medical and surgical therapy to heal the fistula to no avail. Finally May 11, 2007 I had my j-pouch removed and a kock pouch built. Crohns patients are NOT normally candidates for ileal pouches but due to the location of the disease (anal-rectal) and my motivation to avoid a permanent ileostomy it was decided it was an OK option for me. I love my k-pouch! |
