Introduction As I am starting over again in my academic career after working for nearly 20 years in the non-profit sector in various roles, I consider myself a Scholar from Scratch. I love that I am building upon knowledge and experiences that have lead to what I hope will be a more informed understanding of my goals as a scholar, researcher, and advocate. I love scholarship and its promise for new opportunities for communities. I love to cook, especially with a few chopping boards and lots of natural ingredients nearby. I feel the process of building a meal from scratch requires the same care, patience, ability to live with and learn from mistakes, love for the art and the result, testing of new ideas and possibilities, as my journey to pursue my PhD.
Interests policy, healthy and sustainable models of grassroots community development, natural networks within communities, entrepreneurship, women and children, welfare policy, workforce development

Can I make it from scratch? Only time will tell. I will give it my very best.
