Introduction Living out loud is the most courageous, revolutionary thing I can do. I am also a writer. Words are the medium through which I make sense of the world. No matter how horrific or beautiful, I write my way through it. The longer I live the more I learn and discover how much there is yet to know.
Interests I would wake up each day and put pen to paper or fingertip to keyboard even if I never received another dime in compensation. Quilting, gardening, hiking, snoeshowing, lying in the sun (slathered in sunscreen of course), cooking, wine tasting and watching foreign films.
Favorite Movies Lists are so limiting. But here goes: The Unbearable Lightness of Being, Raise the Red Lantern, My Left Foot, The Commitments, Pulp Fiction, any Spike Lee, Woody Allen or Coen brothers movie. Not a lot of sista filmmakers out there but Yentl and Daughters of the Dust are classics in my mind.
Favorite Music Depends oh the moment. Sarah Vaughan, Etta James or Nina Simone for when I need to don my fierceness. Prince, Snoop, Hova, Beyonce, Erykah Badu or Christina Aguilera when I need to move. Rachmaninoff when I'm quiet and alone, the wine is flowing and the laundry piled high. Ditto Kathleen Battle minus the laundry (you just want to be still when she sings). Miles, Coltrane, Billie or Ella as not-so white noise when deadlines are near.
Favorite Books Anything by Edwidge Danticat, Alice Walker, Anne Tyler, Anne Lamott, John Updike, Louise Erdrich, Isabel Allende, Stephen Carter, Mario Vargas Llosa, Umberto Eco and Barbara Kingsolver. Favorite novels: The Remains of the Day, The Bluest Eye, On Beauty, One Hundred Years of Solitude, Kitchen, I Been in Sorrow's Kitchen and Licked Out all the Pots and Blacker than a Thousand Nights. Any cooking book, or novel with food as a theme.

If you were a cannibal, what would you wear to dinner?

Lots of clothes, preferably tough leather and hoary furs, since I assume I'd be dining with fellow cannibals.
