| Introduction | I love Eastern Long Island. I was born here and my roots go way back. There is beauty, peace and tranquility in our local landscape. Trees, sky, flora and fauna as well as historic sites intrigue me. The summer air imparts an atmosphere around the natural harbors, inlets and ponds that were a subject for landscape artists of the 19th century including William Merritt Chase and William Sydney Mount. Plein air painting is a way to pay tribute to those artists. Challenging myself to be outdoors and come up with an on-the-spot arrangement in oil paint on canvas is both meditative and invigorating. |
