Introduction | Local Councillor for Kilbirnie and Beith in North Ayrshire Council. Born and bred in the Garnock Valley, John lives in Kilbirnie with his wife Linda and three children. A founder member of the Radio City Association he served as a director for 20 years. John set up Kilbirnie Town Centre Management Initiative, and has in the past chaired the Kilbirnie Civic week committee and the Spiers Trust, he is currently a trustee of the Stoneyholm Mill Trust. In the Labour administration from 2007 to 2011 he was the Council's Executive member for Children's Services and chair of the Education Executive. When Labour took control of the council in 2016 he became Depute Leader of the Council and Cabinet member for Education. He is Chair of the Garnock Valley Locality Partnership and of the Lochshore Development Group. A former pupil of Glengarnock Primary and Garnock Academy he is graduate of the University of Strathclyde. He has extensive experience in IT working in the industry for 35 years and is a member of Unite Trade Union and also of the Cooperative party. |
