Introduction Martha Patterson is a playwright and essayist. She has written more than 185 plays and has been published in anthologies by Pioneer Drama Service, Smith & Kraus / Applause Theatre & Cinema Books, the Sheepshead Review, and Silver Birch Press. Her work has been produced Off-Off-Broadway (Harold Clurman Theatre and Creative Place Theatre) and in nineteen states. She has been produced overseas in England (Bread & Roses Theatre, London; Green Curtain Theatre, London), Scotland (Quids in Theatre), France (It's Not a Box Prods.' "Overhear Paris" event), Denmark (The Belarusian Dream Theatre), Korea (Seoul Players), Australia (Short+Sweet Festival, Sydney), and Canada (She Speaks Festival / Flush Ink). She is a member of Screen Actors Guild and Actors Equity Association. She earned her B.A. from Mount Holyoke College and an M.A. from Emerson College, both degrees in Theatre.
Interests Writing, reading, needlework, listening to NPR.
Favorite Movies Casablanca; Tootsie; Three Days of the Condor; the "Wallander" televised Swedish mysteries from PBS - gritty & dark!
Favorite Music For classical - Aaron Copland's "The Tender Land"; Edvard Grieg's "Peer Gynt"; Chopin's "Piano Concerto in E minor". For rock - older Rolling Stones recordings; U2, Aimee Mann; Sinead O'Connor; Robert Plant; the Cranberries; the southern blues-rock band Alabama Shakes.
Favorite Books Anything by Jane Austen or Edith Wharton; British mysteries (Sayers, Tey, Allingham); short story writers William Trevor, John McGahern, Alice Munro, & Tessa Hadley; Ruth Goodman's history books on Tudor & Victorian living; M.F.K. Fisher's essays on food.
