Introduction Originally from the UK, Rachael Skinner has been involved in the Conductive Education world for over a decade now. She found her way here via, a mainstream teaching qualification and many years working in a variety of special needs disciplines. She has been based in North America since 2001 and worked in San Jose, California, Halifax, Nova Scotia and Manhattan, NYC. She has worked closely with other therapists most especially speech and language pathologists (SLT) and as a result have become very interested in the integration of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) into CE. Using the Communican program at a private not-for-profit school in she explored this integration and helping develop a program designed to fit the needs of students with complex, multiple disabilities. Now working for a residential and day program in upstate New York Rachael has expanded her knowledge of students with special need to include students with autism spectrum disorder. Working with families in crisis and partnering with special needs organizations around the five boroughs.
Interests Developing communication systems for non-verbal students. Training staff and families in communication strategies, behavior interventions and teaching methods for students with a range of special needs.
