Introduction I was "initiated" into TM February 19, 1972. The Maharishi Mahesh Yogi personally made me a TM teacher in November 1978. I left the Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation orgs after 23 years in 1995. I didn't have horrible experiences -- as many TM veterans do. But after my first marriage in 1992, I found it harder and harder to lie to my wife and family about the religious nature of TM, the fraud of the TM levitation and supernormal powers techniques, and the ever escalating course fees and thought control. A period of soul-searching led me to found trancenet.org in 1995 (now available at trancenet.net). In my work as a critic of Transcendental Meditation and the Maharishi, I've been interviewed for "60 Minutes: Australia," The New York Times, numerous radio shows, and dozens of publications and newspapers. I'm now a licensed therapist, and I counsel TM victims. I also lecture & write on my experiences in and after the TM org. I am married for a second time and live with my family in upstate New York near the Canadian border -- where we raise chocolate labs and enjoy all 4 seasons: Winter, Mud Season, Summer, and the Other Mud Season.

What kind of religion has to trademark and patent 10,000-year-old beliefs and techniques that are the spiritual legacy of the whole human race?
