Introduction | I am literally an accidental science writer. While contemplating a career change (grad school or community journalism), a nun rear-ended and totaled my car. A few weeks later I was offered a teaching assistant position at grad school that paid close to the little I was getting at a small daily newspaper. The insurance settlement was just enough to finance my move. The University of Wisconsin-Madison claimed a sound science journalism program. I decided that sounded good, switched careers and never looked back (except, occasionally, into my rear-view mirror while driving). Since then, I've written for a host of magazines, including Science, Nature, and Discover. |
