Introduction	The idea of this blog was to keep people up to speed with the making of the memorial commemorating The Great Rising of 1381. The memorial was unveiled by the film director and champion of the Left, Ken Loach, For the past couple of years I have been trying to get permission for this memorial to be erected in West Smithfield, where the denouement of the revolt and the death of Wat Tyler took place on June 15th 1381. After much bureaucratic to-ing and fro-ing, I was able to get permission from The City of London, English Heritage and St Bartholomew's Hospital. The stone carver and designer Emily Hoffnung was commissioned in March 2015.
