Which do you prefer and why: whittling with soap or whistling with wood? Wood -- that is assuming the question ends in whittling with wood rather than whistling with wood. The grain of wood adds dimension to whatever you carve. As a child, I used ivory soap -- very plain white -- and balsa wood -- very plain and white but when you encountered a knot, you had to be creative.
