Introduction What follows is a list of my "gateway" colonial ancestors who have links to the Plantagenets: Margaret (Wyatt) Allyn (King John); Nathaniel Brown (King John); Oliver Manwaring (Edward III); Edward Raynsford (Henry III); Thomas Rudyard (Edward III); Thomas Yale (King John). The younger sons and daughters of the English royal dynasties freely intermarried with families of lower social standing, so that several centuries later their progeny numbers well into the many millions. It has been said, and rightly so, that Edward III is the progenitor of the English middle class, and that his grandfather, Edward I, is the ancestor of all the English. The popularity of descent from the nobility has been so enduring that bogus lineages have been created and perpetuated with alacrity. Factual lineages do exist, however, and using some of the references on this blog will help the reader sort out the wheat from the chaff.
