| Introduction | Before transplanting to Park City just over three years ago, my partner and I lived on the side of a mountain in Western North Carolina, in a pack-it-in/pack-it-out shack I built mostly from salvage, struggling to balance our desire for a simple, alternative lifestyle with the need to make a living in the mainstream economy. Lured by the greatest snow on earth and captured by the beauty and vastness of the West, we're still seeking that balance. Greater earning potential has allowed more freedom for exploring the wilderness I love, but we still miss the simplicity of our former homestead. |
