Introduction I'm Abby's mom. I'm a mother and a registered nurse. I have three sweet little girls. Abigail is my second born. From about 18 months on we knew Abby was a bit behind in her speech but her doctor did not think it was cause for concern. I kept thinking that she was just immature for her age. Her speech delay as well as some unusual behaviors led us to think there might be more going on. When she was 2 1/2 we inquired again about this but once again we were told she was fine. Abigail started K3 in the fall and almost immediately her teacher was commenting that she was far behind her peers and that she didn't seem interested in classroom activities. This led us to see a child psychologist. It took almost two months to get an appointment. At Abigail's initial appointment, the psychologist could immediately tell she was delayed. A few checklists and weeks later we were given the diagnosis of pervasive developmental disorder, not otherwise specified. Now we are just trying to figure out what to do next. This is our journey into understanding what is happening inside my precious little girls mind and how we can help her.
