Introduction Prof. Satish Kumar is Director, Foundation for National Security Research and Editor-in-Chief, India’s National Security Annual Review. He was Professor of Diplomacy, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi (1983-98); Visiting Fellow, University of California, Berkeley (1978) and Johns Hopkins University, Washington D.C. (1978). He is also Counselor of International Relations, Academy for World Watch, Shanghai (2011-2013 and in 2006-2008). He held the MEA Chair, United Service Institution of India, New Delhi (1998-1999) and the India Chair, University of World Economy and Diplomacy, Tashkent (1996-98). Prof. Kumar was Director, Indian Foreign Service Probationers Training Course conducted by the School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, 1972-82. He was also a columnist for Hindustan Times (1971-77), Chairman, World Federalist Movement (1987-93). He is a Member of the Indian delegation to the on-going India-Pakistan Track II dialogue called the “Neemrana Initiative”. His publications include: CIA and the Third World, The New Pakistan, and numerous research and newspaper articles, apart from edited volumes on India’s Foreign Policy and National Security.
