| Introduction | Hello, I am a 56 year old woman, a ginger, who has been living with Melanoma since 2010. I say "living with" because very early on I decided that I will be more than a survivor, I will be a "thrivor" I have recently been diagnosed with a loco-regional recurrence and so decided to start writing down my story. I have shared it with those who have entered the community as a volunteer peer support as well as on a few speaking engagements. On all other fronts I consider myself a very private person but when it comes to Melanoma I shout it from the roof tops hoping that I can ease minds, like mine was in the beginning and change attitudes about sun protection. I am not a writer by any means, other than my obligatory charting as I am in health care so please forgive and grammar mistakes you might read. I hope my words may help ease your mind, make you smile, educate or give you a boost of courage during a dark moment. |
