| Introduction | My Story: In 5th grade I decided to be a special education teacher. I was watching a commercial on TV, a boy alone in a room. I felt something deep within me move as the words came to my mind, "That's what I'm going to do." I knew what that meant & I have never swayed. My journey began tutoring on the south of Chicago. I then went on to gain my special ed. degree & went to work in a public self-contained sped class; then starting my own educational consulting business, teaching a university class, running classes for parents of special needs children with their kids, & consulting in schools. After the death of my third child & seeing the end of something precious, I was drawn to a birth to 3 neuro clinic, studying how it all begins. With that I returned to public ed. with a new mind; taking on behavior intervention & autism program developer and teacher. Now, as a new chapter awaits, I have decided to write, simply. I am here to share common sense teaching practice so that we may all somehow keep our children in mind...as I know so many teachers do daily. Please join me. ~julie |
