| Introduction | I was born in a tract home at the end of the block not too far from Disneyland. It was filled with plastic toys, synthetic materials and crayons. Conservatives, hippies, mini skirts, flower power, anti-war protests, Mad magazine, cars that got 10 miles to the gallon and frequent trips to the beach and chronic sunburn were major ingredients in my upbringing. Sunscreen was not. This was a creative time, and individuality was encouraged. All work was congratulated and there were many group shows on the refrigerator.
