Introduction The Benton County Big Sit (BCBS) was founded in 2016 by Kai Frueh and Isaac Denzer who are both avid teenage birders. Since then Ben Frueh (also an avid teenage birder) has joined the BCBS team. The sit takes place each year at William L. Finley NWR in Benton County, OR. During a big sit a group of birders count birds from a count circle with a 17 Ft. diameter for a predetermined amount of time. People pledge a certain amount of money per species found or simply donate a fixed amount. The BCBS donates all the money it raises equally between the four organizations below: Friends of the Willamette Valley NWR complex (which Includes W.L. Finley NWR) Friends of Malheur NWR Corvallis Audubon (our local Audubon society) Cornell Lab of Ornithology If you want more information about how big sits work see the link below.
