| Introduction | I am a fourth grade teacher at an arts-integrated charter school. This is my third year teaching fourth grade. I have also taught fifth grade and middle school English. I am passionate about reading and writing and teach these subjects through workshops. By this, I mean that pupils are given time to read and write in class every day; they choose the books they read and the topics they write about; I model what readers and writers do; and pupils evaluate themselves, identifying their strengths, weaknesses and accomplishments. I also incorporate writing into math and science. My goal in both math and science is to get kids to think and have a deep understanding about what we are doing. Pupils are encouraged to write about how they solved problems and share these strategies with their peers. |
