Introduction Professional: Writer. I earned my MFA in Writing from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and my BA in Journalism from Eastern Illinois University. I have studied with Tom Jenks, Janet Desaulniers, Lee K. Abbott, Rosellen Brown, Beth Nugent, and Alice Mattison. My fiction and non-fiction have appeared in Time, The Times of Northwest Indiana, Chicago Review, Book magazine, Chicago Artist’s News, Room of One’s Own, ACM (Another Chicago Magazine), Lake Shore Drive magazine, Chicago’s Subnation, and The Creative Woman. My fiction has also won awards and citations from Playboy magazine, the Mary Roberts Rinehart Fund, the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs, the Illinois Arts Council, Chicago Women in Publishing, and the Hobson Foundation.
Interests Writing, reading, Ashtanga Yoga, Pilates, stretching, swimming, studying the Italian language and its literature, the Kabbalah. Personal: Married to Bill Hincks, the sweetest and coolest guy ever, and living on the Southwest Side of Chicago with him and our Australian Shepherd-Sheltie mix, Teddy. I am also Roman Catholic and my favorite Catholics in history (past and contemporary) are Erasmus, St. Teresa of Avila, St. Catherine of Sienna, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Francis de Sales, Blessed Laura Vicuna, Father Thomas P. Doyle, Madonna, Sinead O'Connor, Flannery O'Connor (even though I can't excuse of dismiss the racism), and Gary Wills.
