Introduction This blog is about Lord Buddha and how the Lord influenced and shaped my life from the day I was born. I am a Sinhala-speaking Sri Lankan national. I have described myself as ‘Sinhala-speaking’ to indicate the fact that my parents spoke the Sinhala language and that I learnt about Lord Buddha in Sinhala. The term Lord Buddha I have used here may be thought of as the equivalent of the Sinhala terms ‘Budu Hāmuduruwo’ or ‘Budurajānan Vahanse’ in Sinhala. Aim of this blog is to show how our customs are related to the language Lord Buddha spoke; Sinhala is a derivative of that language and Sanskrit. Because of this it is very easy for me to guess the meaning of the words of Lord Buddha. A word about myself: I had a scientific education; thus I am an atheist. My profession was that of an electrical engineer and later that of an engineering manager. Since my retirement about 11 years ago I devoted my time to the study of Buddhism in an academic setting. I learnt nothing of value from that experience to add to the knowledge of Dhamma I gained in my childhood.
