Introduction | I live in a Blue State with my wife and daughter, where I try to convince people to listen to "my music." I've made mixes for near strangers. I've been this way for as long as I can remember. Maybe you understand... I grew up in close proximity to NYC where I was able to buy cool t-shirts and catch a lot of shows. I was lucky enough to come across a college radio station in 1990 and heard the Fugazi song “Shut the Door.” The following day, I bought “13 Songs.” As I was holding it, some random dude came up to me and said, “Buy that album. It got me through the last year of high school.” Done. The first Pavement song I heard was “Conduit for Sale!” this while driving in a friend’s car to surf. I was introduced to Sonic Youth by MTV when I saw “Kool Thing.” Yo La Tengo played on the steps of my college library. The point is that I’ve always been receptive to new music and when I liked it, I knew it. My music knowledge is centered on rock and its many offshoots, but I’ll give most anything a good listen because I understand that’s the only way I found all the stuff I love. By giving it that first listen. |
