| Introduction | For over a decade, I've been writing about the historic lodges of the national parks in the US and Canada. That's resulted in a number of published books and accompanying PBS television series. I've met hundreds of fascinating folks, worked with wonderful photographers and historians, combed through archives and had a grand time. All of this has given me some insight into what makes these places so special, what to look for, what to avoid and how to get the most from your travel experience. And while I can give some tips on these historic lodges, the main one is this: appreciate them for what they are, pieces of our heritage. Corny? Maybe, but that's part of the fun. Oh, yes, before becoming an author and "expert" on lodge history, I was a newspaper journalist. You can make whatever you'd like from that, but I learned a couple of important things from my first career: check facts, try to be objective and enjoy your job. If you want more info on the books, the photographers and me, just checkout my website, www.greatlodges.com. Thanks! |
