It Starts Here!

Introduction	Hey there! I’m Yan – Queen’s grad and medical student at the University of Calgary. I grew up in China as a kid, but since age 8 I’ve also lived in Norway, Scotland, and now Canada. I’ve had the opportunity to not just see, but also to live in, some of the richest and poorest regions of the world. I’ve slept in grand hotels and open-air teepees. I’ve used both water-free urinals and hole-in-the-grounds. And I’ve eaten everything from Peking duck to weeds picked right beside my grandparents’ rural Chinese hut. Living through these experiences has made me question the world as it is now – is it just? Is it efficient? Will it last us? Over time, I’ve developed quite an interest in social, environmental, and economic sustainability. Fortunately, I have had many chances to put my thoughts and ideas into practice, and luckily some have come to fruition. What are some of my sustainability-related thoughts?
