| Introduction | Traveling to the Illinois State Fair each year to watch our sons' and now, grandchildren show their swine in the open shows was the beginning of my baking career in the open culinary exhibits. I began this endeavor with one entry and that was in the candy category. I placed third on my caramels. I soon ventured out and received the awards for "Best German Chocolate 3 layer cake from scratch, Best Cake containing fat and Best Cake overall.(all for one cake) I received a silver plate, purple rosette and blue ribbon. Now, I have ventured out to contests and pies. Not doing too badly on the pies, one first, several 2nd place ribbons and 1 third place so far. I have created a cookbook for my family with all of their favorite childhood recipes from "TASTEBOOK" and plan to add to their cookbook with my newest recipes entered into the Illinois State Fair competitions. |
