Introduction	I don't believe in reincarnation, but if I did, I'm absolutely certain that I once passed a lifetime as a Parisian. I'd like to think I was one of those people with a de or a de la between my first and last names. It's more likely, though, that if I did live in a grand hôtel particulier, it was in the servants' quarters! From the first time I set foot in la ville lumière, I felt completely at home. On that first trip, we walked around idling peeking in the windows of real estate agents, and only three years later, we first turned the key in the door of our very own Parisian apartment. Most Americans think Paris is romantic, and it is. But it is also confusing, confounding, and irritating. And all the while, it's unspeakably beautiful and exerts a magnetic pull unlike any other place on earth. Our experience of Paris is about the good, the bad and the in between.
