| Introduction | I am a retired school teacher who studied to teach elementary art but due to the funny turns life takes ended up teaching PK through 5th grade for almost 40 years. As I faced retirement and pondered what to do with my life I was challenged in a seminar to create a community project. I realized that right at my school there was a 250 ft. wall in the yard covered in graffiti. What better opportunity to combine my first love and encourage the community to take charge of their own school. For six weeks we worked together and created a mural that not only transformed the yard but the spirit of everyone in the school. Now I volunteer to teach art on a regular basis and create opportunities for everyone to be involved in painting murals to beautify our schools. |
