Introduction | I grew up in the worlds of both theatre and architecture. My mother co-founded the OXY Summer Drama Festival, and my father Oak, a math teacher and pioneer in progressive education, designed and built all of my childhood homes. I was drawn to historic theatres from an early age, and the Rialto Theatre was my first. I founded Friends of the Rialto in 1983 to advocate for its protection, and served as Executive Director of the L.A. Historic Theatre Foundation for 6 years. I continue to advocate for the preservation and revitalization of historic theatres and work as a design consultant for theatres, commercial buildings, and residences. In 2021 I came up with a new way to advocate for historic theatres, I created the first two in a series of Historic Theatre Coloring Books for adults. I've been lucky enough to travel all over the world, first with my parents and siblings, then with my amazing wife Jeanne and sons Kyle and Evan and I'm grateful for their support and patience as I insisted on stopping at every historic theatre I could find! |
