| Favorite movies | Quite few friends have spoken to me , asking about "Why not join an organization that pays you a steady salary?" And to that i say: Good question... Ha! :)No. it IS a good question that comes with good answers. 1.) I believe that YWAM and the lifestyle of living through relationship and team building with individual financial supporters is what God has called me to. 2.) There are a couple of ways to live Biblically as a missionary (we see different examples of them in both old and new Testament) and this is one of them and the one I believe i am called to. 3.) I believe in the relationships, building community and not thinking we can do it on our own or are independent of the Body of Christ. 4.) Often we give to charities and large mission organizations and it really is wonderful. I do too! I believe in doing this! |
| Favorite music | Yet Also there is benefit in giving directly to the missionary you would sponsor and knowing exactly where the finances go, hearing directly about the lives being impacted because of your giving ,and getting to take a more personal ownership of being a part of what God is specifically doing through your invested prayers, finances, and time. Often I have found this rather encouraging to those who have supported me. I used also a comparison when talking about this with my sister. Often it is "easier" for us to give money into a big box that holds donations for a charity or mission of some sort. And that is not bad. Not bad at all. In fact it is fantastic!!! Giving with no chance of receiving anything in return is such a wonderful way to stretch our faith, knowing the God is our provider and teaching us unconditional love and generosity. Brilliant. |
| Favorite books | But there is often one part missed, and that is the investment of our hearts. Making it personal. We spoke about how much it could change and affect you in a deep, different way, if you yourself knew of a homeless guy, or a family that needs a car, or a friend who has too many bills, or a co-worker who's sick, etc, and you personally, get to know them, look them in the eye,and invest in and give to a person. Not just an idea.Your heart grows with them. And your compassion and love for others also grows. It is more costly in a sense. For we like the idea of an organization that won't let us down. but we forget that even organizations are made up of people. And people will let you down occasionally. We all do. and it's okay. We help build one another back up and move forward. Giving to a person, to a missionary you know personally, or that homeless guy you've encountered, or your boss or your family or whoever will be more costly to your heart when done personally. But I also believe the benefits go very deep as well and are very rich. I hope this makes sense. I'm not meaning to preach! hahaha! Anyhow, that is the explanation i will offer for now. Any further questions are always welcomed. i would really love hearing how you are and what you are up to as well! |
