| Introduction | Lee James grew up in a small town in a Midwestern “Red” State ending in a vowel. After graduating from an ultra conservative high school, Lee fled to a California university, where he earned a Bachelor’s in English, and forever dropped rube terms such as “warsh, deeshes, and youins” from his vocabulary. His new degree left him with two options: write novels and go on welfare, or take the LSAT and try to get into a law school. Lee studied law, then went to work for a government agency ending in a vowel, in an administrative capacity that, should he tell you about it, would result in him killing you…with its tedium. Retiring early (read that as escaping with his sanity), Lee turned to writing—his first love.
