Introduction | In 12th grade, I took Calculus 1st thing in the morning. I am not a morning person. I followed along for the first week or so, but soon, the only time I could really stay awake was on test days. I would attempt the first couple problems, then flip over the test and draw cartoons. Mr. Cohen, my teacher would give me partial credit for the problems I'd attempted and then flip the test over and add points if he liked my cartoons. I still failed Calculus, but I knew I was headed to art school. So, two semesters into college, I joined the circus, where I spent a few years, performing as a clown. Growing up, I loved comic books and Mad Magazine. I wanted to make super hero comics, but eventually realized I prefer to draw funny pictures, like Batman stepping in chewing gum or Superman's pants falling down to reveal his BVDs of steel. I've never been good at keeping diaries/journals, but I have about 25 years worth of sketchbooks and I've tried to maximize my minimal art education. I've published a few comic books and done a couple of art shows for my paintings. Thank you Mr. Cohen. Your encouragement has taken me far, but I still hate Calculus. |
