Introduction	I am a first time mom to a little miracle girl. Naysa Diane Qilue was born March 22, 2011 with a prenatally diagnosed Encephalocele. An Encephalocele is a rare neural tube defect in which the skull does not fully fuse and a cyst like sac forms with CSF and brain matter. The severity of the cele depends on location. We were fortunate enough to have very little brain and a "good" location. Around 4 months old she developed Hydrocephalus and had a shunt placement surgery. At 7 months old she started infantile spams and got started on seizure meds. At 15 months old she had corrective eye surgery for Strabismus. She's had several shunt revisions (back to back) suffered strokes, has epilepsy and is G-Tube dependency for fluids and majority of calories. She also has Brachycephaly.
Interests	Creating awareness. If your baby was prenatally or postnatally diagnosed with an encephalocele, I encourage you to give your baby a chance. Doctors will tell you to terminate and that your baby will have no quality of life, they'll be stillborn and so many scary things but THERE IS HOPE!
