IntroductionMy volunteer work began with a small SPCA shelter, through person to person I learned of and met people running private animal rescues. There was a whole other world out there outside of humane societies that no one I knew had heard of. I met many passionate people who spent endless hours volunteering their time to save and rehabilitate these animals. It’s been a rocky 5 years of learning the ropes, dealing with behaviour issues in cats and dogs, medical issues I had never encountered and ongoing conflict in a “society” where people make their own rules where there are no governing laws to mandate what is and is not an acceptable practice. Nonetheless, I believe strongly there is a place in this “society” for me. I have made friends and enemies. In the end, what I remember are their faces, the pain and sorrow when they first arrive and the transformation throughout the healing process. I write this blog for your entertainment, for potential adopters but in all honesty it’s for me, so I can look back when life seems unbearable and remember each one of them and how they touched my life.
