About me

Occupation Author, Screenwriter, Documentary Filmmaker
Location United States
Introduction I am a writer of fiction, film, and music. I scripted such films as the notorious "9 and ½ Weeks," "Sommersby," "Impromptu" (personal favorite), "What Lies Beneath" (story), and "All I Wanna Do," which I also directed. My two my documentaries "Marjoe" and "Thoth" won Academy Awards 30 years apart. But my first ambition was always to write novels. William Morrow published my raunchfest"Dry Hustle" in 1977. It's now reissued as an ebook. My just-published second novel "Jane Was Here"(2011)is a paranormal mystery thriller that spans 150 years, examining the karmic links between a woman's mysterious disappearance in 1853 and her reincarnated self in the present day. Formerly an RCA recording artist, I continue to write music, posting songs on my website I live in New York with my husband James Lapine. My peerless daughter Phoebe Lapine is a food writer.
