Introduction My experience of philosophy (after being a jazz singer): my first philosophy degree was at University of York, which included formal logic, the ideas of many of the great thinkers in the Western tradition; then I embarked upon a Philosophy of Religion MA at King's College, London, followed by a Music MA; researching philosophy and music produced my PhD thesis entitled 'Plato's Gender Configurations of Music' at University of Manchester. Now that I have formally retired I thought it might be fun to have a philosophy club here in Barnes. This has been running since the end of 2010. When I started The Barnes Philosophy Club I had no idea where it would lead. But thanks to the support of The Royal Institute of Philosophy, and encouragement of Julia Bebington from Barnes Community Association and the Coach & Horses in Barnes, the club has flourished: and I have recently added over 280 names to our mailing list.
