| Introduction | After about the 20th time someone I loved dearly told me "What you write and think about is certainly interesting, but I don't think most people really care that much," and after discovering that sometimes looking for the simpler interpretation of Scripture that might connect with children was the most fun of preaching, I began a discipline of listening rather than studying, and listening first, as far as I could, with the ear of a child who doesn't need to worry about science and history and all that stuff. And I found, with that ear and heart, that I felt closer to the writers I was reading, the writers of the Bible. |
