At 15 my parents found a really good boarding school in South Africa and thought it would be a really good idea to send me, and my older brother there - we agreed and off we went... spent five years there, 3 in the boarding school and 2 with a friend that I met at the school. It was the best 5 years of my life, the last 2 years were spent in a small town called Jeffery’s bay which is most famous for the waves and surfing competitions. I decided to come back to London and work- got a job in a champagne bar/restaurant (Corney and Barrow) which was in the heart of the city (Liverpool st) I worked there for 7monthes, learnt allot about wines, communication skills and how to give quality service. I found the first 2 months the most difficult as I couldn’t even tell the difference between chardonnay and a sauvignon which everyone thought was retarded, being vegetarian meant that I didn’t know that you could have meat cooked in different ways i.e. medium and medium rare which was also pretty embarrassing. I worked some long hours too (12hrs for 2days a week-which tested my stamina) By the end of the 7months I was managing to pour 2 pints at a time and made many friends who became regular customers! I have always been interested in events and intrigued in the amount of time talent and effort that goes into putting them on, I managed to attend 5 festivals this summer and the thought of actually being able to manage one really excites me! I look forward to being able to put some events on in Falmouth (perfect place/ great people & atmosphere) :D |
