| Introduction | I am a recovering chemist because I discovered, after a bit of a tortuous road, that there once was a me beyond chemistry and the application of the scientific method and enjoying the chains of the lab bench, and the agony of defeat at the hands of the "compound" or the synthetic pathway that looks great on paper but jut doesn't quite cut the mustard in practice. As I always say, and I know others have said it before me in many different ways: In theory, things should work better in practice than they do in theory.
