| Introduction | Our story in a nutshell: We met in Florida through AmeriCorps, really clicking on the last day of the program. By then, our careers took us in completely opposite directions -- John to wrangle wayward kids in the Utah desert, me to lead better-behaved kids through the Florida swamp. We figured we'd probably never see each other again when we said a teary goodbye in January 2008. But, well, we were dead wrong! After a year-and-a half of dedicated, poetic letter-writing and many cross country flights, it was clear we couldn't live without each other. So we wound up together in Utah, where we got engaged. John proposed in the backcountry of Zion, both of us freezing from a motorcycle ride in a spring snowstorm and multiple river crossings through icy water. Then we cemented our relationship by enduring an intense summer on an off-the-grid sheep ranch. Then we motorcycled to California, where Jamie pursued her masters' degree in journalism and John worked on an organic farm. Soon, we're moving to Petaluma, where John plans to continue farming and Jamie will have a real journalism job. Our favorite hobbies? Gardening, cooking, exploring, and long walks on the beach. Really! |
