Introduction Norbert Weinberg- Rabbi and educator- has created a narrative of the Jewish experience of the last century, as seen through his family's records and archival documents. His father, Rabbi Dr. William Weinberg, earned his Rabbinical ordination in Berlin, was imprisoned by the Nazis, escaped to the Soviet Union, and returned to Austria and then Frankfurt as the first Chief Rabbi of the German State of Hesse( Frankfurt region). His mother, Irene Weinberg, survived Nazi persecution while passing for an Aryan in Lwow and Warsaw. Their account forms the core of this research. Norbert and his wife, Ofra, have founded The Starting Edge, LLC, a program of college readiness.Until recently they operated the Huntington Learning Center in Encino, CA, which provides remedial and enrichment tutoring. He has served as Rabbi to Hollywood Temple Beth El in Los Angeles, and other congregations. He also directed the Central Institute for Jewish Studies at Bet Berl in Israel. He was ordained as Rabbi and received his MA and doctorate honoris causa from the Jewish Theological Seminary, and his BA from New York University.
