| Introduction | Gerald W. Fussell, Ed.D. has his doctorate from the University of Kansas in Educational Leadership and Policy. He also has a master’s degree from the University of Victoria in Curriculum Leadership. He is currently the principal of NIDES/Navigate an online learning school that serves more than 4,000 students through a myriad of blended and online programs. For the previous 6 years he served as Principal of Lake Trail Community School. Gerald has successfully led initiatives to improve assessment practices, collaboration, critical thinking, gifted education, literacy, numeracy, school change, and resilience. He was the chair of the 21st Century Leadership Committee, charged with preparing the school district for British Columbia’s Redesigned Curriculum. His doctoral thesis examined student self-assessment of Core Competencies in British Columbia. Gerald has many published articles and has presented at numerous conferences at the local, provincial, national, and international level.
