Why does the taste of pennies remind you of losing a tooth?

Pennies remind you of losing teeth because of salt. That's usually the first taste of blood kids remember in their mouths, and blood has lots of sodium in it. Pennies, which are usually disgustingly dirty, also have a lot of salt on them. Hence the connection. Also, a lot of kids probably chew on pennies and break their teeth when they're like 5.
