| Introduction | I love nature, have 3 terriers, a large container garden (that I water with an automatic drip system because I tend to forget to water them). I also like the aquarium hobby. I can't keep houseplants alive but somehow the plants in the aquarium seem to thrive. I collect Afghan and tribal Persian rugs. I prefer the older ones, especially Bakhtiar, Qashqai, and Shiraz rugs, and anything from Azerbijan region. Mosul, in present day Iraq, has nice tribal rugs too. My favorites are the vegetal dyed Afghan rugs woven by Uzbeks. Karghai and anything made in Khal Mohammed's workshops are pretty amazing too. I have them hung on walls, draped over stairway railings, made into large floor pillows... I also love Syrian inlaid mosiac tables and Moroccan lighting (I have several, including one I bought from a shop in Cairo). I got interested in middle-eastern and central Asian music to get a better idea of the culture of the people who make the rugs and things I love so much and it's been an interesting and fun experience. My dream is to one day travel to the middle east, Iran, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, etc and meet ordinary people, camp with nomads, sleep in a real yurt. |
