Introduction Patriot John Lamb formed the New York Company of Artillery in 1775, supported by the energy and imagination of his friend and principal aide, Isaiah Wool of Stratford, Connecticut. After harassing tories in New York City, they set out with General Montgomery to open a Northern Front in Canada. Seriously wounded at Quebec, Lamb returned to New York in 1776, and with Wool at his side, assembled and commanded the Second Continental Regiment of Artillery, based at New Windsor, New York. After participating in the Battle of Yorktown, Lamb and Wool took their regiment back to New Windsor, where they remained in service until the War formally ended in 1783.
