About me

Industry Education
Occupation High School Eng. Teacher
Location Reynolds, GA, United States
Introduction My daddy was a Dooly County farmer. If I had been a son, I, too, would have prepared the soil, planted the seeds, tended the fields, and hopefully harvested good crops. I still believe the sweetest smell I know is a fist-full of soft, moist field dirt. But in the mid-twentieth century, girls did not become farmers, not in my daddy’s household, anyway. Since I could not become a farmer of plants, I became a farmer of minds. I cannot “put my finger” on one specific contribution or accomplishment that I have achieved or attained and say “Of this, I am proudest!” But I can say that when I see a student experience an “Ah-Ha!” moment, or when I receive a note from a student telling me how much they appreciate my support or encouragement, or when, years after his or her graduation, I see how one of “mine” has become a responsible, productive citizen, then I am proud to know that I had some hand in that person’s life – that I helped tend that “plant.” To me, that could be my only acceptable reward; that could be my only satisfactory achievement.
