About me

Occupation Writer
Location Akron, Ohio
Introduction David Giffels is possibly the only person from Akron, Ohio, who has written for an encyclopedia and for "Beavis and Butt-Head." A longtime columnist at the Akron Beacon Journal, he is the author, most recently, of "All the Way Home: Building a Family in a Falling-down House," a memoir about coming of age as a husband and father while trying to turn a nearly condemned Tudor Revival mansion into a home, published last year by William Morrow/HarperCollins. He has also co-written books about New Wave pioneers Devo and Akron's rubber industry, and is at work on a Rust Belt memoir. In addition to "Beavis and Butt-Head," his writing has appeared in the New York Times Magazine, Redbook, This Old House Magazine and many other publications, and in "The American Midwest: An Interpretive Encyclopedia" and "The Appalachians: America's First and Last Frontier." Giffels has recently left newspaper journalism to teach creative writing at the University of Akron. More at: www.davidgiffels.com
