About me

Location Sicily, Italy
Introduction Gangivecchio is a 14th century abbey in the majestic Madonie Mountains of Sicily. It is situated at the base of the stone village of Gangi--Gangivecchio actually means "Old Gangi"--in a fertile valley blessed with water flowing from an ancient spring. Roman ruins from 1,700 years ago have been unearthed in the abbey's courtyard and Greek ruins are also believed to be here. Gangivecchio is also home to Horticulturist Dr. Charles Sacamano. Dr. Sacamano is a Professor Emeritus of Plant Sciences at the Univesity of Arizona and former Director of Ecology for the 2000+ acre El Tamarindo golf resort and nature preserve in Mexico. Together with his wife Shirley, Dr. Sacamano posts frequent updates on the flora and fauna of Gangivecchio and the surrounding countryside on Gangivecchio's NATURE Blog.
