| Introduction | We started beekeeping late in August of 2004. My two beautiful girls were interested in nature and several people at work had been talking about keeping bees. I received a call from a keeper that had received a swarm call and did not want them. He set us up with a deep hive body and a couple shallow supers and some of the basic tools that he had spares of. Unknown to both of us at the time, this was actually an established hive in a squirrel box. I spent a couple hours the next day cutting out comb and tying it into frames. We began to feed the bees so that they would survive the winter and this year we will be harvesting our first surplus from them. As of October 2007 we currently have 6 hives that we will be overwintering. We hope to have a surplus in 2008 to sell. |
