Introduction I was living in almost complete ignorance of the growth or even existence of jihad until September 11th, 2001. But at that moment, I was in a unique position to contribute something to my fellow citizens: I was in the middle of a writing project. I was working on a book specifically aimed at teaching the reader how to recover from the feelings of defeat and demoralization that often come from a blow or setback. I was writing it for anyone with an important goal who experienced setbacks. The last 35 years of research on the causes of depression has accidentally uncovered something you might call "The Technology of Persistence." That was what my book was about: How to become resilient in the face of setbacks. How to recover your determination and feelings of motivation after a failure. After September 11th, many people in the United States and other free countries seemed paralyzed and demoralized. So I started CitizenWarrior.com to do what I could about it. I wanted to help people prevent themselves from giving up or becoming demoralized. That has been my mission ever since. The site is focused on giving ordinary (non-military) citizens ways to fight and defeat jihadists.
